Yield

1 Pint

Ingredients

3 ounces shea butter
2 ounces mango butter (available at City Market by special order only)
1 ounce coconut oil
1⁄2 ounce beeswax
3 ounces infused oil (such as calendula infused oil)
2 ounces rose water (or orange blossom water)
1 ounce aloe vera
50 drops essential oil (of your choice (optional))
1⁄4 teaspoon borax

Instructions

Slowly melt the butters and wax in a double boiler or in a pan over very low heat. Once they have melted, turn off the heat and slowly add the infused oil. You may notice parts of the liquid become solid again. Sometimes you can just give it a little stir and everything will melt again. Otherwise, heat it a little bit once more until everything melts together.

Once the butters, wax and infused oil are combined, pour the mixture into a blender or bowl. If you are going to use a blender to blend in the remaning ingredients, pour the mixture into the blender and set it aside until it is at room temperature. If you are going to use a cake mixer or immersion blender, place the mixture in the bowl that you will be using. Set the bowl or blender in the fridge or freezer to speed up the cooling process.

While waiting for the butter mixture to cool, mix together the liquid ingredients (rose water through essential oil) and borax.

Once the butter mixture has cooled, use a blender or handheld mixer to mix it, slowly adding the borax mixture. When everything is blended it can be poured into jars and labeled.

Notes

Store the body butter at room temperature. If you think it will last you more than 6 months, store in the refrigerator.

To use, rub a thin layer of the body butter onto your skin after a hot shower while your pores are still open. It will soak in within minutes.
