Chipotle Cherry Barbeque Sauce

When warm weather arrives, it’s time to light the grills. Give this funky twist on BBQ sauce a try at your next backyard gathering. Combining sweet and smoky flavors with a little bit of acid makes for a delightful sauce.

Ingredients

2 cups cherries, sweet (washed and pitted)
2 cloves garlic
1⁄4 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons mustard, stone-ground
1 1⁄2 teaspoons sea salt, smoked
2⁄3 cup tomato, diced (with chilies)
1⁄4 cup chipotle sauce (canned)
1⁄3 cup sugar, turbinado

Instructions

Place all ingredients in a blender or food processor. Blend until well combined and transfer to a saucepan. Cook, stirring occasionally, on medium heat for about 60 minutes until sauce is reduced by half, or reaches desired thickness. Let cool, pack in a mason jar, and bring it to your next barbecue
