Yield

4 Servings

Ingredients

4 tablespoons butter, unsalted (melted)
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon ginger, fresh (grated)
1⁄2 cup brown sugar (packed)
1⁄4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
4 pear (firm but ripe; try Bartlett, Bosc, or Anjou pears; peeled, halved lengthwise, and cored)
2 tablespoons rice vinegar

Instructions

In a 10 inch pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the soy sauce, ginger, brown sugar, and cayenne pepper. Stir until the brown sugar is melted and all ingredients are combined.  Reduce heat to medium low.  Add pears, cut side down. Simmer, basting pears frequently until they are tender when pierced with a knife, about 8-10 minutes. Transfer pears to a serving dish. Bring the liquid in the pan back to a slow boil and add vinegar. Simmer the sauce until it is thick and syrupy, about 3 minutes. Pour sauce over the pears and serve.
