Virtual programming

Join us as we celebrate the diverse dessert traditions of Ukraine. We will learn to make the traditional poppy seed sweet bread, Makivnyk, popular as a holiday dessert or for breakfast or teatime. Between a cake and a bread, Makivnyk is in the Babka lineage and different versions of this sweet bread are made across Ukraine, including woven, round, and rolled shapes, and variations include chocolate, nut, and fruit filling. We will also make Syrnyk, a sweet cheese or simple cheesecake traditionally eaten at Easter. We will learn about the spiced honey fruit punch Uzvar, a great recipe for using up dried fruits from the winter or to make with fresh summer berries. As we bake, we will discuss the renowned dessert and hospitality traditions of Ukraine.
