Consider adding the medicinal and culinary benefits of herbs into your garden and landscape this season! Kara Buchanan, Co-director of Spoonful Herbals shares her decades of herb gardening experience and some of her favorite plants suitable for our Vermont climate for making delicious teas and quality medicine. We’ll discuss plant and site selection, trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals, propagation techniques, flavor and medicinal qualities, best harvesting practices, and suggestions for drying and storage of your harvests. She'll also share a brief lesson about making quality teas from both fresh and dried plant material.

Kara Buchanan received her formal herbal training at the Sage Mountain Advanced Herbal Training Program with Rosemary Gladstar. As a community herbalist, culinary creatrix, and master gardener, she has created products and maintained medicinal herb gardens for more than two decades. She is co-director, educator and gardener at Spoonful Herbals. She stewards the Rooted Heart Rising medicinal garden at Rock Point in Burlington, VT which serves as the primary classroom for Spoonful's Community Herbalism Apprenticeship program and grows many of the cultivated plants used in Spoonful Herbals products.
