A Week's Worth of Local

I’m always impressed how many new Local and Made in Vermont items we get in each week. We added our 2,000th locally produced item not long ago (not including fresh produce!), and the number just keeps climbing.

This week’s newbies include:

Vermont Salumi

Plainfield, VT

In our Meat case

After tasting my way through Vermont Salumi’s offerings this summer at the Burlington Farmers’ Market, I was really glad to see we’d have these sausages available at City Market.

Producer Peter Colman lives down in Plainfield and is making sausages with pastured pork sourced from Vermont farmers. Peter was born in Italy and spent time apprenticing there with old-world butchers. The sausages, as a result, are beautiful and delicious. There are 4 flavors. Here’s how Peter describes them:

Great Expectations is a pub style English banger. Warm nutmeg and thyme tones are backed by Hill Farmstead’s aromatic Edward beer!

Benito is a Mexican style chorizo at its best. This sausage has loads of flavor, depth and cayenne punch.

Roma is the suit and tie of sausage. A clean cut blend of coriander, fennel and a touch of red pepper evoke years of Italian tradition to create this Vermont Salumi classic.

The Daily Grind is a traditional course ground sausage from the Umbrian region of Italy. With bold red wine and garlic flavors, this is the epitome of sausage, straight-forward and delicious.

5th Sun Fire Roasted Salsa

Burlington, VT

In our Hippie Cooler

This is a fresh salsa made at the Miguel’s on Main, the Mexican restaurant here in Burlington at the corner of Battery and Main streets.

Extra Small Candy Canes from Laughing Moon Chocolates

Stowe, VT

On the Aisle 1 Endcap

These treats are hand-rolled in Laughing Moon Chocolate’s shop in Stowe. They do candy cane making demonstrations at 11:00 a.m. every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday through December 23. If you can’t get there yourself, you can watch this Seven Days Bite Club TV feature:

East Shore Vineyard Marquette

Grand Isle, VT

In our Vermont wine section

The Marquette is a red wine made from grapes grown at East Shore Vineyard mixed with grapes grown in Shelburne, VT. East Shore’s website describes the wine as, “a full-bodied red… On the palette are notes of jammy black raspberry & vanilla, followed by a smoky finish.”

Who knows what might show up next week!
