An Invitation

Dinner on a farm, with friends, has to be one of the best parts of summer. Local grass-fed burgers, live music, the warmth of a fading summer evening, fireflies...

Burger Night at Bread and Butter Farm

Plant Dyes and Bee Hives

City Market's Summer Farm Tour

Sunday, August 5, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Start & End at City Market, Burlington

Only a few centuries ago dye plants were a part of any home garden. Wool and other natural fibers were dyed with the pigments extracted from plants. We’ll take our Summer Farm Tour to the Garden of Seven Gables where Joann Darling still grows a natural dyes garden and uses them to dye wool and silk. She’ll lead us in a 4-hour workshop, learning the rainbow of colors that can be obtained from the plants in our gardens, meadows and forests. On the way home, we’ll stop by Weeping Pines Farm and Apiaries in Williamstown where Susan and John Mailloux keep bees and craft soap, lip balm and skin crèmes from the honey and bees wax. The tour is $10 for City Market members. Transportation is provided.
