South End Store Back Open After Boil Water Notice Lifted

After a boil water notice in parts of the South End that caused an unplanned closure earlier in the week, the South End store has fully re-opened.

Both stores open regular hours again as of July 4.

Update (July 3 at 12:15pm)

Shortly after 10:00am this morning, we were notified by Burlington DPW that the boil water advisory affecting parts of the South End has been lifted. According to DPW, “Sample results (from samples taken yesterday after water pressure was restored and hydrants were flushed) were received this morning, July 3rd, and the results were normal, with no indication of contamination.”

Our South End store will re-open tomorrow, July 4 for regular hours, 7am-9pm. Our Downtown store remains open today, July 3 as scheduled from 7am-9pm (earlier closing due to fireworks celebration) and will be open July 4 regular hours, 7am-11pm.

The results from the water quality testing mean that product purchased at City Market South End on Tuesday, July 2 should be safe to consume unless its expiration date has since passed. Out of abundance of caution and concern for safety, we advised customers not to consume product purchased yesterday until water quality results could be confirmed, and as such, refunds on product sold will still be honored.

We would like to thank our customers and neighbors for their understanding and patience as we work to re-open our doors for the Fourth of July holiday. We would also like to thank the City of Burlington for swift action, communication, and support to ensure the safety of our community and staff.

Update (July 2 at 3:15pm)

The store will continue to be closed through July 3rd as we await water quality test results and hope to know more by Wednesday, July 3rd at 5pm. At this time we will know if our South End store will be open for July 4th. Our Downtown store will remain open during regular hours (7am - 11pm) but will be closing early at 9pm on July 3 for fireworks.

For concerns related to food safety in this situation, please contact the Vermont Department of Health at 802-863-7221.
