Deep Freeze in Southwest Causes Crop Damage

For anyone following the recent unseasonably cool weather in the Southwest and its effect on food prices nationwide, we wanted to fill you in on some of the news from our farmers and suppliers in that region. Many have heard about damage to citrus crops due to freezing temperatures, but we are also beginning to see higher prices on greens and broccoli. We have heard some reports of partial or total crop failures of those items. At this time we have been able to procure our usual amount of these items but please be aware that nationally these items are less plentiful than normal for this time of year. If you have any questions about the availability of a particular item, our friendly staff in Produce is more than willing to give you an update on information we are receiving.
