Eat Local Challenge: Sept. 19 - 26

Support the local food system by pledging to eat only locally produced foods for a week, starting this Saturday, September 19! Enjoy the diverse local goods that we are so lucky to have available to us in Vermont! Are you up for the challenge?

Sign up to take the Eat Local Challenge at EatLocalVt.com!!

Consider this as you sign up to take the Challenge:
•    Taking part in the September Challenge is a practical, field-tested way to build awareness of where your food comes from!

•    Keep labor and resources in this amazing community all while enjoying excellent food!  Our farmers are our neighbors and they work hard to provide the freshest, highest quality, and best tasting food around.

•    Remember that local food is defined as food grown, harvested, and processed in Vermont or within 100 miles of your home.

•    If concerned that a week without non-local favorites just does not seem practical, sign up to take the challenge for a couple days, one day, or maybe just a meal…

•    Maybe just choosing to buy a couple of local items when you shop is what you can do to make a difference…

•    Note the Marco-Polo Exception: Salt, pepper, spices, and leavening agents are ok to use even though not locally produced.  Important: Coffee falls under this exception, too!  (Phew!)

•    The Localvore Food guide is available at City Market’s Customer Service desk.

•    The estimate is that the average food travels 1500 miles to our table! It is said that each pound of local food you purchase prevents a quarter pound of global warming (C02) emissions.

•    It is great to be able to say, “My food comes from just down the road!
