Why would you like to serve on the City Market Board? What excites you about becoming a Board Member?

I would like to serve as a board member for a few reasons. One of those reasons is that really value the community focus that City Market fosters and believe that my experience in the grocery business will be useful here. People need food and I would love the chance to be a part of the governing body that helps provide that need.

Please describe any professional skills you have that will help you to be an effective Board Member. How would you help the Board to balance the business needs of a $50 million business with the need to meet our Global Ends as a community-owned cooperative?

I have worked in the grocery business for the better part of the last 10 years. I managed the engineering department for a $4 billion grocery chain and feel that my knowledge in the technology needed to run a grocery chain will be very useful.

Describe your prior involvement with community organizations and/or cooperatives. What did you learn from these experiences?

I have not worked with any cooperatives in the past but I have volunteered for various organizations helping to raise money. I have learned that it takes a community to help when people are in need. I have learned that every little bit can help even if it is not all the help that is needed.

What opportunities and challenges do you see in the future of City Market?

I see a lot of opportunities for City Market to grow and influence the local community. With the successful opening of a second store, I look forward to opportunities for City Market to expand even further. The grocery business is not an easy one, but I believe that the City Market approach and community-based thinking will help them overcome challenges in the future. No one knows how online ordering and shopping will change the landscape of grocery shopping or the next big technology. With the proper policies and planning City Market can be ready for whatever it is.
