Food Safety Alert: Romaine Lettuce

Lettuce Romaine Calm

Update 11/27/2018: Based on new information, the CDC has narrowed its warning to consumers and we are now bringing romaine back in from safe sources. CDC is advising that U.S. consumers not eat and retailers and restaurants not serve or sell any romaine lettuce harvested from the Central Coastal growing regions of northern and central California. If you do not know where the romaine is from, do not eat it.

The romaine we have now comes to us from Yuma, Arizona, and is considered safe to eat. If you have any questions, please ask a staff member or consult www.cdc.gov/ecoli.

Dear City Market customers,

Following the advice of the CDC’s food safety notice posted on 11/20/2018, we have pulled all romaine lettuce products, including heads of romaine, salad mixes containing romaine, and items prepared by our kitchen containing romaine. The warning is not specific to romaine from any particular agricultural area or supplier. Additionally, the CDC is advising all consumers to dispose of any romaine they have at home.

From the CDC statement:

“CDC is advising that U.S. consumers not eat any romaine lettuce, and retailers and restaurants not serve or sell any, until we learn more about the outbreak. This investigation is ongoing, and the advice will be updated as more information is available.”
