April Featured Member Artist: Burlington Children's Space

Burlington Children's SpaceBurlington Children’s Space is an early childhood center deeply rooted in Burlington’s Old North End. Programming is based on the interests and curiosities of the children, and the unique culture and resources of our local community. Last year, the children of the Green Preschool classroom pursued an in-depth study of textiles including weaving, using a sewing machine, dyeing yarn, hand sewing, fabric printing, and quilting. Each child began the quilting project by drawing their idea for a quilt square, then using fabric, ribbon and a sewing machine (with the guidance of a teacher) to make their quilt square plans a reality. This collaborative quilt is one of the artifacts of this long-term study.

March Featured Member Artist - Natasha Sky

Natalie SkyI love to create. My favorite way to paint is on found materials with food-dyed milk paint. I also use acrylic paint and cotton canvas. My painting is in the K’Vay style. K’Vay is pronounced ‘kay-vay’ and comes from the Spanish “¿Qué ve?” It means “What do you see?” I believe in honesty, justice, bright colors, big families, natural hair, real food, and playing outside all day. To these ends, at least 10% of annual profits from sales of my artwork support youth in foster care, the local foodshelf, and families living in poverty.

I have been a prolific film photographer since I was a high school girl in the mid-1970’s, developing my own black and white film. In 2009, I finally “went digital”, the same year that a job transfer brought my husband and me to beautiful Vermont. I’ve delighted in exploring the state with the fresh eyes of a new arrival.
