Member Artists

Due to the closing of the South End store's cafe, we are temporarily suspending the South End Art Wall to be fair to our Member Artists. Our March Artist, Claire Graham-Smith, has kindly offered to leave her show up in the interim (see Claire's page below). Our Downtown Art Wall plans to continue as normal while respecting social distancing requirements as much as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Are you an artist and a City Market Member? We'd love to feature your art on one of our Member Artist Walls!  We feature art from a Member Artist for two month periods at both our Downtown store on the wall near Register 10 and in our South End store on the walls on either side of our cafe.  If you are interested in displaying your art, please fill out and return our Member Artist Application and submit to

July Featured Member Artist - Burlington City Arts' Summer Camp Program

“This class has been my dream. I love to create things.” (Camper, age 9) “I made more art in one week than in all the time before!” (Camper, age 14)

June Featured Member Artist - Judy Rice

As a native of Maine, the magazine Downeast was always in our house and after moving to Vermont at the age of 11, Vermont Life was added.  The photos in both of these magazines were the catalyst for my landscapes.  I eventually added photos of friend and family vacations, backyard gardens, pets, or, as you can see from this display, whatever captures my attention.  As for portraits—sorry, but that’s a no go.  As my Dad told me one day

May Featured Member Artist - Michael Z Rork

Zinfandel Photography is owned and operated by myself, Michael Z Rork. As well as specializing in boudoir, wedding and portrait style photography, I also thoroughly enjoy finding opportunities to add to my "Postcards from Vermont" landscape portfolio. My photographic style gravitates towards the cinematic -- dramatic lighting and epic composition.

April Featured Member Artist - Stella Marrs

Stella Marrs is an interdisciplinary artist whose work addresses feminism and ecology. She uses events, publishing, video and installation as spaces to generate female voice. Marrs has made large scale, collaborative, event-based works such as Girl City and 100 Women Dinner Party that are cited as seeds for later Riot Grrrl culture. Her more recent work has been in installation and video. She received her MFA in Visual Studies at the University at Buffalo in 2009, and is keen to establish a practice investigating local culture in Burlington, Vermont.

March Featured Member Artist - Cydney Williams

Cydney Williams is originally from Livingston, New Jersey. As a freshman at the University of Vermont, where she studies Studio Art and Psychology, she embraces abstract concepts while incorporating vivid colors. Her unique style has captured an intrigued audience. Cydney is constantly creating new artwork, and when not in the studio she can be found acquiring inspiration through traveling and nature.

February Featured Member Artist - Carol Blakeley

Carol Blakeley is an accomplished photographer, working with high school seniors, families, pets, sporting events and just enjoying the out of doors scenes nature provides. Carol has gained recognition through word of mouth and various awards, publications and volunteer work. Attracted to color and always pushing herself to ‘think outside the box’, she strives to constantly better her work through a life styles venue.

January Featured Member Artist - Haley Bishop

Originally from California, Haley has spent most of her life in Vermont.  She attended Burlington Tech Center, studying Design & Illustration, before achieving her BFA from the School Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Tufts University.

December Featured Member Artist - Matthew and Maggie Rose Bogosian

Folk Heart is a collaborative project between brother and sister, Maggie Rose and Matthew Bogosian. They use photography to explore positive relationships between the manmade and the natural. When there is balance there is beauty.
The images are transferred onto artisan paper with the help of essential oils and finished with vintage white, wooden frames.

November Featured Member Artist - Helen Dechtiar

This month’s featured Member artist is Helen Dechtiar, who is showing her "organic abstracts" using varied mediums such as watercolor, pen and ink, watercolor pencil, gouache, oil and acrylic. Her work is influenced by the scientific investigation of micro-worlds, stellar worlds and worlds we imagine may exist. She searches for the harmonies, patterns, movements and the "changes and chances" hidden in these worlds rather than choosing to create illusions of reality, also known as "realism". Helen is also influenced by Asian art that seeks to explore the "essence" of things. She looks for the patterns and forms she sees within Chinese and Arabic calligraphy.

September Featured Member Artist - Christopher McBride

City Market’s featured Member Artist for the month of September is Christopher McBride. His photography is taken with a Nikon camera and lenses, and he tries not to transport the viewer to another place, but rather to first bring them directly to the image. The image’s color, texture, light and composition speak first, and then perhaps the viewer will go the image location and fill in associations.
