Three Things We Bet You Didn’t Know About City Market Membership

The City Market Community and Marketing Team at Member Meeting 2023

There are so many great reasons to become a City Market Member that it can be hard to keep track! Here are three of our favorites:

1 - Member Discount Days mean better savings than ever

New this spring, we’ve re-tooled our 802 Discount Day benefit to be even more valuable for Members! During our Member Discount Days, all Members receive 20% off their first shop of $50 or more. This expanded our Members-only sale days to have a longer timeframe, a higher discount, and many more eligible sale items – in fact, the only things not eligible for the discount are alcohol, stamps and newspapers. It’s a huge increase in value! We hosted our first Member Discount Days in April, and our Members really enjoyed the chance to stock up on household staples or try brand new things that might otherwise have been just a little out of budget. On average, Members who shopped during our Member Discount Days saved about $24 – that’s more than the cost of an annual Membership! Stay tuned for future Member Discount Days!

2 - Members Go Local partners reward City Market Members all around town

Did you know that City Market Members can receive discounts ALL YEAR with locally-owned businesses around town? You probably already visit some of our 24 Members Go Local partners, like Pet Food Warehouse, Pingala Café, or Red Wagon Plants. Our partners offer a variety of discounts and perks to City Market Members – for instance, Red Wagon Plants’ 10% discount for City Market Members means your big spring shop for your garden could yield big savings! Check out all our Members Go Local partners and start taking advantage of these great everyday benefits.

3 - Membership is an investment in our thriving local food system

Members own the Co-op and have a say in our future – there are no distant shareholders demanding we engage in extractive business models, just our neighbors, together, prioritizing a more just food system. A full ownership share in our Co-op is $200, but most Members choose to pay in annual increments of $15. This Membership model lowers the barrier to entry to be a City Market Member, allowing more of our neighbors to enjoy the benefits of Membership and to have a say in our Co-op’s future. Your equity is always yours – you can retrieve it at any time.

Not a City Market Member? You can join at any register or online and enjoy all these benefits and more! Plus, if you join during our Spring Member Drive (May 13 - May 26), you’ll receive $5 off your next shop of $5 or more and, while supplies last, a Co-op 50th Anniversary tee shirt featuring the art of Christine Tyler Hill
