Yield

2 Cups

Ingredients

1 tablespoon vegetable oil (or canola oil)
4 cloves garlic (minced)
1⁄3 cup soy sauce
3⁄4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
6 teaspoons sriracha
1 cup root beer
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon black pepper, ground

Instructions

In a pot over medium heat, add oil and allow it to get hot (but don’t let the oil start smoking). Add garlic and stir until slightly browned. Add the remaining ingredients and stir until combined. Allow the mixture to simmer until thickened. Stir occasionally, adjusting heat as necessary so the bottom doesn’t burn. Simmer about 15 minutes. Remove from heat.

Store and cool in the refrigerator. Once cold, you can use it to marinate chicken, beef, or pork.  To marinate, place meat in a glass bowl and cover with sauce, reserving some to brush on meat after it has been cooked.  Let marinate for 2 hours before cooking.

When ready to grill, remove the meat from the bowl and discard marinade.  After cooking, brush meat with reserved sauce and serve.
