Recipe adapted from The Mountain Rose Blog.

This recipe can be easily adapted depending on the spices you like best. Try adding raisins or vanilla beans to round out the flavor and for a little added sweetness.

Ingredients

4 nutmeg (roughly ground or broken into small pieces)
1⁄2 cup cardamom pods (roughly ground or broken into small pieces)
2 tablespoons cinnamon, ground
1⁄4 cup orange peel, dried

After breaking up the nutmeg and cardamom pods, combine all the ingredients together. Either store in an airtight glass container or divide into ¼ cup servings. Add extra cinnamon sticks as desired while mulling.

Notes

Mulled Wine Kit

To create a thoughtful, simple gift, create your very own personalized mulled wine kit. Fill an 8 oz jelly jar with your favorite mulling spices, using the recipe above. Then take one orange and prick with whole cloves. This is a great way to add fragrance both to your gift and the eventual wine! Pick out a full bodied red wine with slight fruity notes that will pair well with these spices. We recommend Beaujolias Nouveau, Pacific Redwood Organic Red Blend and Bully Hill Love My Goat Red (from New York). Arrange these three parts in a basket or a gift bag and you’re all set.
