Honey Orange Syrup

Recipe by Martha Mack

Enjoy this simple (no pun intended) seasonal syrup! Simple syrups can be made with sugar (or other sweeteners) and are also often infused with fruit, herbs, or spices. A perfect addition to any holiday cocktail. This recipe is from our DIY Holiday Shrubs & Simple Syrups class with Stonecutter Spirits led by Martha Mack, Beverage Program Director at Stonecutter Spirits.

Yield

1 Cup

Ingredients

1 cup sugar
1 cup honey
2 cups water
1 orange (peels reserved)

Instructions

Add sugar, honey and water to saucepan. Bring to simmer over medium heat until sugar has completely dissolved. Stir occasionally. Remove from heat. Add peels of the orange.  Let infuse for 20-30 minutes, covered. Strain out peels. Allow to cool. Keep refrigerated when not in use.

*Fresh orange peels are desirable for this syrup. The orange itself is not needed for this recipe, so enjoy it as a snack while the peels infuse!
