Herb salts are easy to prepare and make great stocking stuffers. You’ll find an array of different salts and glass jars of all shapes and sizes in our Bulk Department. For a personalized touch, make a handwritten label for each type of salt and include a few of your favorite recipes to use them in.

1 cup
salt, coarse
1 cup
salt, fine
4 cups
herbs, fresh (like rosemary, thyme, oregano, sage, lavender, or marjoram)

Rinse and dry fresh herbs. Let sit for several hours so there is no moisture on the herbs. If you have a mortar and pestle, grind the fresh herbs with the coarse salt, or simply chop the herbs and salt together on a cutting board with a large knife. Add the fine salt, grind a little more. If you would like to extend the shelf life, spread salt/herb mixture on a baking sheet and let sit for additional drying time. Shelf life with fresh herbs is at least a year, assuming no moisture gets into the salts.
