If Bitter Isn't For You

Grapefruit has long been hailed for being packed with vitamins, yet its bitter taste definitely isn’t for everyone.  Recently some sweeter varieties have taken hold and increased the fruit’s popularity.  One variety is the Rio Red.  Thought to be a cross between the Texas Rio Star (on the sweet side) and the Ruby Red (a more traditional bitter-flavored fruit with pink flesh), Rio Red was first introduced to consumers in 1984.  Mainly cultivated in California and Arizona, its sweet flavor may alter your perception of grapefruit entirely.  Try some in our produce department today.
