We ♥ Local Sweet Potatoes

Vermont winters are the perfect time to get creative in the kitchen. While local produce is not quite as abundant in February as it is in the summer and fall, we’re proud to offer a wide variety of local and made in Vermont products all winter long. Each year, we host a We Local Recipe Contest where we feature a specific ingredient that’s available this time of year. For this year’s contest we’ve chosen the mighty sweet potato!

We Heart Local…All Year Long

Here at the Co-op we’re all about supporting local farmers and producers. While the variety on offer fluctuates throughout the year, you’d be surprised at how easy it is to incorporate local products into your diet even during the harshest of winter months. That’s why we started our We ♥ Local Recipe Contest, now in its eighth year running!

We ♥ Local Cornmeal

Our annual We ♥ Local Recipe Contest is about to get underway, and this year the featured local ingredient is local cornmeal!  You can find local cornmeal in our Grocery Department (Aisle 1) from Nitty Gritty Grain Company

Local Parsnip Perfection

Those of us living in northern climates who like to eat fresh foods during the winter are likely well-versed in root vegetables.  Beets, carrots, onions, potatoes, turnips and the like are readily available to us throughout the cold months.  But one can only eat so many root vegetables before they become blasé (really, how many ways can you eat turnips?).
