City Market’s Fall Farm Tour
Orchard Tour and Hard Cider Making Workshop
Scott Farm

Each fall, City Market bursts at the seams with heirloom apples. Scott Farm in Dummerston grows 90 varieties for us with names as unusual as their flavors (Hidden Rose, Sheep’s Nose, and Hubbardston Nonesuch, just to name a few). European immigrants brought many of these varieties as they came to the new world, selecting varieties not only for fresh eating and baking but also for making hard cider.

On this City Market Farm Tour, we’ll travel to Dummerston to meet the farmers and orchardists whose hard work preserves these historical and delicious varieties.

The initial activity of the day will be a 2-hour hard cider workshop led by Jason MacArthur. Jason will show us how to brew hard cider at home, including equipment choices, selecting apple and yeast varieties, and bottling your homemade elixir. In the afternoon we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch, then tour the orchard to taste and learn about the apple varieties.

Join us for this special tour and workshop! Transportation is provided from City Market. Limited spaces are available and our farm tours fill up quickly. Reserve your space today for this unique opportunity.

The tour is $20 for City Market members. Non-members will be placed on a waiting list– please email mklepack@citymarket.coop.
