Beer and Wine May Newsletter: Winery of the Month

By Joey Bowling, Beer and Wine Manager

Redtail Ridge is a winery located on Lake Seneca in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. Nancy Irelan and her husband Mike Schnelle purchased the 35 acre property in 2004 with big dreams and plans. With Mike as the grower and Nancy as the maker, RTR produces Chardonnay (both with and without oak barrel fermenting), Riesling, and Gewurtztraminer. They also make some more obscure varietals, like Teroldego and Blaufrankisch, two grapes from the Alps that thrive nicely in these colder climes.

In partnership with Good Karma, a grassroots organization dedicated to feeding the hungry through Foodlink, RTR produces a Riesling called, you guessed it, Good Karma. The organization targets the root causes of hunger by distributing food to a network of human service agencies. 10% of all profits from the sales of Good Karma Riesling here at City Market goes to our very own Vermont Food Bank, our state's largest hunger-relief organization, which distributes food to soup kitchens and shelters in all 14 Vermont counties! So far, Good Karma has amassed donations of more than $18,000! Keep spreadin' the love and pick up some Good Karma on your next trip in.
