Vermont Works for Women helps women and girls recognize their potential and explore, pursue and excel in work that leads to economic independence. After more than 25 years, VWW has an extensive record of accomplishment in working with women, young adults, girls, educators and employers and in developing, implementing, and growing innovative programs.
FRESH Food, a VWW enterprise, is a culinary training program that prepares underemployed women to work in commercial kitchens and restaurants. Over 13 weeks, trainees assist professional chefs in preparing 5,000 healthy, nutritious meals per month for local childcare centers throughout Chittenden County. As a member of the Vermont Fresh Network, FRESH Food collaborates with 25 Vermont farmers and vendors, locally sourcing about 30 percent of its food.
Volunteers are needed for special events and needs periodically throughout the year and volunteers are needed in FRESH Food's kitchen on a monthly basis. FRESH Food jobs include helping staff and students bake weekly batches of rolls or pack FRESH Foods Peanut Butter Cranberry Bars, which are sold to various businesses throughout Chittenden County.
