Simple Roots
Here at City Market, we love our local producers and there are not many that are as nearby as Simple Roots Brewing. Located just off North Avenue in Burlington, next to Ethan Allen Park, Dan Ukolowicz, a science teacher at Burlington High School, and Kara Pawlusiak, a counselor at Colchester Middle School, are the husband and wife team behind these great beers. An offset garage next to their house serves as the brewery, where last year they produced about 100 barrels of suds.

They like to brew “Simple, true-to-style beers”, says Dan, such as a German wheat beer called Gose the Destructor (10 points if you get the joke), Burlington Common Lager, Hearthside Oatmeal Stout, Monarch Mild, American Dream Cream Ale, Kara's Kolsch, and seasonal Saisons. They also produce some American styles as well, like the Citra-Amarillo Pale Ale and Stone Tower Pale Ale (guess what this one was named after). They also like to keep their beer on the quaffable side, keeping things at an approachable 4-5% ABV.

This month is Dan and Kara's one year beer anniversary, so join me in a toast to Simple Roots; keep it up you two!
