City Market, Onion River Co-op, downtown Burlington’s cooperative grocery store, was awarded the National Cooperative Excellence Award for 2008. The award is bestowed to one retailer each year in recognition of innovative products and services, outstanding member benefits, and service and growth in net sales and earnings.
City Market, Onion River Co-op, downtown Burlington’s cooperative grocery store, has surpassed its member drive goals with 188 new members. The recent reduction in annual member equity payments from $25 to $15 helped to increase interest in membership, bringing the total number of Co-op members to 3,119. “We work hard to offer our members outstanding benefits such as the Patronage Refund program,” said General Manager Clem Nilan.
City Market’s most popular soups, Chicken Noodle, Minestrone, Seafood Gumbo, and Tomato Basil are now available everyday for lunch or dinner. The signature line of soups is packaged daily and available in the grab-n-go cooler and freezer section. City Market intends to unveil additional signature products in the coming months including salad dressings, salads, and entrees.
Over 500 trees sold at annual Holiday Tree sale
City Market, Onion River Co-op donated the proceeds from its annual Holiday Tree sale to the Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS). City Market staff presented the check totaling $8,384.00 to COTS Director of Development Kim Borsavage and COTS Board Chair Anne Cramer on Friday, December 19. The annual tree sale to benefit COTS has been held at the Co-op for the past 11 years, bringing the total donation to over $44,000.
