Consuming plants as food and medicine is an excellent way to deepen your relationship to the natural environment while nourishing yourself. Join community herbalist Katherine Elmer of Spoonful Herbals to explore (and taste) common medicinal plants growing in backyards and urban spaces on a walk at the Intervale Center. Identification, processing, and safe harvesting of plants from urban areas will be discussed. We’ll also hear from Duncan Murdoch, Natural Areas Stewardship Coordinator of the Intervale Center, on various land use practices at the Intervale. You might come away with a newfound appreciation for those “nuisance weeds”!
Katherine teaches and practices as a clinical herbalist at Spoonful Herbals in Burlington (unceded Abenaki Territory). She is also a faculty member and licensed Health Coach at the University of Vermont Program in Integrative Health and at the Holistic Health Program at Vermont State University.
